Secret Beach
El Nido, Palawan, Philippines
Address
El Nido
Palawan, Philippines
Description
Hidden behind the limestone cliffs of Matinloc Island, Secret Beach is one of El Nido’s most distinctive coastal attractions. The small sandy cove is concealed from the open sea and is traditionally reached by swimming through a narrow opening between the limestone rocks, making the journey into the beach part of the experience.
Inside, visitors are greeted by clear water, a compact sandy shoreline, and towering limestone walls that create a sheltered, enclosed setting. Secret Beach is associated with El Nido’s Tour C, which explores beaches and marine attractions around Matinloc and nearby islands.
Best Time to Visit
November to May generally offers more favorable conditions for island hopping in El Nido, with calmer seas more common during this period. For Secret Beach, however, the day’s waves, currents, and tide are particularly important because visitors normally have to swim through the rocky entrance.
What to Expect
Expect to get wet before reaching the beach. Visitors normally leave the tour boat outside the cove and swim through the limestone opening while wearing a life jacket and following their guide’s instructions.
Access can become difficult or unsafe when waves are strong, and Secret Beach may be removed from an itinerary when conditions or protected-area management require it. Recent El Nido Tourism advisories have also shown that access arrangements for Secret Beach can change, so visitors should confirm availability with their tour operator before departure.
Getting There
Secret Beach is located on Matinloc Island and is reached by boat from El Nido town. It is traditionally visited through Tour C or a private island-hopping tour that includes the Matinloc area.
Responsible Travel
Secret Beach is within the wider El Nido Managed Resource Protected Area, established to conserve the area’s important terrestrial and marine environments. Visitors should avoid touching or standing on coral, collecting shells or marine life, damaging limestone formations, or leaving waste behind.
