Cathedral Cave

Cathedral Cave is a dramatic sea cave on Pinasil Island, named for its tall limestone entrance and soaring interior that resemble the architecture of a cathedral. Sunlight entering through the opening highlights the cave’s steep rock walls and dark blue water, creating one of the distinctive geological sights on El Nido’s Tour B island-hopping route.

The attraction is primarily a sightseeing and photography stop rather than a cave visitors explore on foot. Tour boats approach the entrance so passengers can appreciate the limestone formations from the water. How closely a boat can approach depends on sea conditions and instructions from the crew.

Best Time to Visit

The generally preferred period for El Nido island hopping is November to May, when calmer seas and clearer weather are more common. Tours can still be changed or cancelled whenever winds and sea conditions make travel unsafe.

What to Expect

Expect a relatively short but visually impressive stop focused on the cave entrance and its towering limestone walls. Unlike Cudugnon Cave, Cathedral Cave is not normally an on-foot cave exploration experience.

Because the site opens directly onto the sea, waves and currents can affect how close boats are able to approach. Visitors should remain within designated areas and follow their boat crew’s safety instructions.

Getting There

Cathedral Cave is reached by boat from El Nido and remains part of the municipality’s Tour B itinerary. Recent August 2026 El Nido Tourism advisories continue to list Cathedral Cave together with other Tour B destinations such as Snake Island and Cudugnon Cave.

Tour B operations are weather-dependent and may be suspended when maritime conditions are unsafe.

Avoid touching, climbing, or damaging the limestone formations and never leave waste in the water or cave surroundings. Observe wildlife without disturbing it and follow all instructions from your guide and local tourism authorities.
