Description
Black Island, also known as Malajon Island or Isla Malajem, is an island in the municipality of Busuanga, not the municipality of Coron. It is located near Barangay Panlaitan and is recognized as a destination within Busuanga’s island-hopping circuit. The island is characterized by dark limestone formations, a sandy beach, natural caves, and surrounding marine waters. Its cultural significance is also documented: the Philippine Supreme Court identified Isla Malajem as a seashore and cave traditionally used by Tagbanua communities for gathering balinsasayaw (edible bird’s nests). The Municipality of Busuanga currently includes Black Island/Cave among its recommended island-hopping destinations.
